VanTransit through the ages!

I put together this little animated GIF the other day. I think it’s pretty darn cool. I’d like to make a version incorporating the provincial government of the time, which would relate to certain periods seeing a lot of expansion versus stagnate times. Click on the version below for the full size.

What’re the different colours? I can see, expo line, seabus, millennium, west coast express, what’s the green? b-line? and then of course the RAV/Canada Line in red.
Yup, the B-Lines are the green ones. I tried to make it in a similar fashion and colour scheme as the official TL maps.
Can you incorporate population levels somehow without it getting too busy and hard to keep track of? I’d love to see something like this done in Flash, where you can add/remove different layers.
I’d really be interested in doing something like that. There’s a ton of cool visualizations that could be done like that with the web - problem is I don’t know how to do them. I’m sure there’s a more efficient platform than Flash, something like a Google Maps mashup with variable layers and times. I guess it would be a matter of me learning how to do it, and also obtain density information circa the 70’s, probably from the GVRD. Wanna help? :P
I like the animated the gifs, but unfortunately i find it to quite lacking. The title being “VanTransit through the ages!” would have you believe that you would include the transit or trolley lines that existed in the earlier part of the century and how they have removed. Now that would have cool, watching time go by and the removal of mass transportation.

Sorry to disappoint you Adam. I’d love to create something like that, if only I had the skill and time to do so. Hey, if you want to pay me, I’m willing to learn how to make it :P
Yes, I will admit the title is rather deceptive. But, really, it would be a whole new ballpark to create a visual transit map, spanning over 100 years. Not only is it technically a challenge, but how would you decide what to include? I mean, there was a heck of a lot of streetcar routes - much more similar in essence to the bus network. And if I wouldn’t include regular bus service on a modern day map, why should I similar streetcar service on an old one. Issues like this…. But I definitely agree it would be cool to develop. Maybe later down the line.
I forgot to mention it earlier; awesome map!
