Surrey Cycling Initiative
I’ve been quietly working on a city-wide cycling plan for Surrey the past few weeks. I’ve never been much of a cyclist, and I think it’s that exact reason that made me do the research and come up with some solutions that, to me, would make cycling a true transportation and recreation option in Surrey.
The basic plan has three technologies that are designed to create a bike network: sidepaths, bikepaths, and bike lanes. The sidepaths provide physical barries from the roadways, while being designed for “transportation” use. The bikepaths are designed for both recreational and transportation use. Bike lanes, and other roadway markings, coupled with traffic calming in areas, complete the network. Other facilities, such as proper signage, or bike parking complement the effort.
I’ve included interactive Google Maps in the site and have tried my best to lie out the plan in an easily approachable way for all. The site was created in iWeb 2. Pictures were taken from around the web with Google or Yahoo Images, and some have been linked back to, such as those from flickr.
I’d love some feedback on this mini-project, as I’ve also been working during my spare time on a South of Fraser Transit Plan, and a vision for “Transit Metropolis Vancouver”, and suggestions will help me improve those initiatives.

This is a GREAT idea, Paul. As a long-time Surrey resident who spent his formative years biking from Fraser Heights to school at West Whalley (Kwantlen Park) and QE, had more than enough close calls to vote for a dedicated bike route through Surrey. The “City of Parks” really should invest in something like this.
