Hate mail from “Jason Krog”

This just hit my facebook. What do you think I should do?

ur fuking 18 u faggot. stop…dear god just stop…What the hell is the world coming to when an 18 year old that is still a virgin is trying to be part of city council. This is not an episode of the simpsons or family guy where anything can happen. You have barely finished a semester of post secondary, have no fucking life experience, barely got your lisence, still can’t conversate properly as I can see in your tv interviews, how the fuck do you expect to sit on a council with a bunch of experienced men and woman and deal with the problems of surrey residents? The people that voted for you are just as dumb as you are. Hell even a 30 year old is young for something like this..me and my friends were talking and we think you’re making a mockery of the system where a bunch of 18 year old retards are trying to land important government jobs…you ugly faggot, get a post secondary degree, get married, have kids, GROW UP A LITTLE before you try and pull this shit again. i swear if you ever accidently run into me campagning handing out ads I will punch you square in the face if you’re still under the age of 30…bye

UPDATE: Jason Krog is apparently a Vancouver Canuck. This was obviously a fake identity. Easy enough to do – I’ve created a Paul Simon account on facebook before!

  1. Wow, how ignorant is that? Nor am I sure the author of this post is any expert on how to “conversate properly”. I’d suggest you retort, but I don’t think it would do any good. This reads like somebody with a serious drinking/drug problem wrote this, and they’re obviously beyond reason (and are somehow competent enough to use the internet). It could also be a teenage prank – Perhaps a jealous former high-school co-sufferer? You could always delete this message as spam and, given that you’re something of a minor public celebrity, report it if it happens again.

  2. Call the police. Treat this as hate crime. The first word is already offending enough… I’m serious, call the police on this one.

  3. Oh and then bring it to the attention of Global news. I’m sure they will be happy to do a story on this one. You should be proud of what you done and not let people like those stop you.

  4. I am with the previous commentators. Treat it as a hate crime. The writing is threatening and I am sure you can trace their IP address and stuff like that. I’m puzzled as to how you can receive anonymous comments on Facebook, though. One more reason why I don’t want to join Facebook.

If you need any help, or would like us (the blogging community) to spread the word and unleash the wrath of the Web 2.0 on this guy, let us know. You’re not alone, Paul. You have friends and we will NOT let anyone intimidate you.

  5. Um, but are we sure that the writer of that email is “Jason Krog” really? I Googled for Jason Krog and all I get is stuff about a hockey player. I seriously doubt any serious hockey players would DARE pull stuff like this.

  6. Call the police, the poster has threatened you with physical violence. You have no way of determining to what level this person can go.
Regarding his attack on your campaign, it’s a laughable characterization of events.
I’ve watched young people enter local politics for the last 15 years in this city. Both you and Stephanie Ryan (who I also consider a young contender) ran spectacular campaigns, and I congratulate you on a very strong showing in the polls.
I hope you both have it in you to run again in 2011.

  7. You need to contact the police. This is absolutely wrong and he should be charged for it. Good for you on your achievements.

  8. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I’m not sure if that’s defined as hate speech or not, and how seriously the police would take the threat…

I wish I could trace his IP, but it was through facebook, not email… As we’ve figured out, Jason Krog is just a fake identity – apparently stealing the name of a Canuck.

I wish there was something more I could do, but alas, it seems unlikely. I did however bring the hatred to the attention of others, and I’m happy to hear so much support and solidarity against it.

  9. Paul, it would be advisable to put “Jason Krog” in quotes in your post so that when people google Jason (the canuck) they realize that this is not the actual real identity of the person who sent you that nasty facebook message (and who clearly isn’t Jason Krog, the Canuck).

How can a message be posted in Facebook without being traceable? Is it a wall post or something?

  10. You can send people messages normally. I mean, that function can be turned off so you don’t receive messages from random people, but I’ve always left it on as a means to connect with me even if I was somebody’s facebook friend.

Normally when a message is sent, you then open up your profile for access to the person you sent the message to. However, this “Jason Krog” does not have a profile, nor can I access it. I suspect his account has since been deleted, as I reported the message to facebook staff.

  11. Yeah – Report it to Facebook – they can more than likely trace the account. Then I would contact the police. However, if it is just a stupid troll – they thrive off reactions… so it’s a sticky situation. Just know that there are a TON of people out there that support you and think what you’re doing is awesome.

  12. Report it. Period. Contact Facebook and the authorities. No one has the right to do anything like this, and you should take it as serious as someone threatening you face to face. They also need to learn the consequences of such cowardly actions.

They also need to learn how to use spell check. Holy geez…

  13. For the record, i trust you more than most of the 40+ folks i’ve met in public office (and that’s been a few) *and* as someone who grew up in Whalley in the 70s-80s, you inspired and impressed me tremendously.

PS FB is for suckers and breaks the Internet

  14. My god. I’m with everyone on this. We have no idea how serious it could be — that last sentence IS a threat and no one knows what this person looks like. Hopefully this guy is dumb enough to have used his home computer that can be traced. It never hurts to contact the police. Good luck with it. I’ve had to call them once… it takes a little courage! I’m glad you told us about this.

  15. This person is disturbed and ignorant, it is good that you shared it. The threat of violence is unsettling. Report it, find them, then let the police nip this at the bud -troll or non-troll. Politicians always have detractors, but this is just… unacceptable. You are a folk hero with SLYC now by the way.

  16. Paul: Report it to Facebook if it came as a Facebook message and to the Police. It is totally inappropriate use of the Internet and probably does count as a Hate Crime. Bernadette
